Great “Netflix and Chill” Movies

Great “Netflix and Chill” Movies

Watching movies is a great way to relax and spend time with your significant other.

It’s shocking, but “Netflix and Chill” sometimes really means getting comfortable and watching a movie with someone you care about. The following movies appeal to various people and are in no particular order.

Zombeavers

Zombeavers is a Great ‘horror’ film to watch if you want to laugh a lot. The few-and-far between jump scares are just enough to allow for scary movie cuddling, but won’t leave you too traumatized. Zombeavers is especially great if you choose a character that you ‘are’ for the entirety of the movie; the more accurate the better. The basic storyline is that a radioactive mixture is dumped into a river and the beavers living there become zombies. The group of friends who decide to visit the lake have a lot of internal drama going on—and a case of best friend betrayal.  Chaos ensues in the most predictably funny ways possible and has a satisfying ending.

Good Will Hunting

Good Will Hunting is an incredible movie to show to your significant other if they haven’t already seen it. It is an impressive movie all around, and they will be ecstatic about your knowledge of such great cinema. It has some romance, but it’s also a somewhat coming-of-age story, sprinkled with drama and humor. Will Hunting, played by Matt Damon, is a kid from Dorchester, MA with few opportunities to show his genius—until he solves an almost-impossible math problem and is taken in by a math professor. This movie is known for the charisma between Robin Williams and Damon. It will be a true feat if you can make it all the way through with dry eyes.

Silver Linings Playbook

Silver Linings Playbook is a romantic film that isn’t too cheesy and has a nice amount of drama and laughs. You sympathize with the characters Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper depict, yet  also giggle at their ridiculous antics. This movie also includes a nice dance routine performed by the two leads, who rock it with perfect style. Plus, Robert De Niro plays an over-excited, gambling Eagles fan. The high stakes in this movie will have you on the edge of your seat.

Pulp Fiction

When you’ve got a lot of time on your hands, Pulp Fiction is the way to go. It is a quirky and long film, but it is a movie everyone must see at some point in their lives. In case you don’t already know, some of the best memes and pop culture references come from this movie due to Samuel L. Jackson’s bad ass persona and Uma Therman’s unique beauty.

Hector and the Search for Happiness

Hector and the Search for Happiness is a super fun feel-good movie, which has the potential for tears. This movie makes its audience laugh, tear up, get angry and feel scared. Hector, the main character, goes on a trip around the world to find the meaning of happiness for his psychology research. It sounds like a perfectly innocent trip, until social norms in different countries don’t quite line up with Britain’s. This is a movie that does well with a diverse audience because of its cheekiness and bigger themes.

Babadook

One of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen, Babadook is a terrifying horror film. An overall horrifying theme, deep message, and creepy music throughout really gets your heart racing for the entirety of the movie. It’s a perfect movie to watch if you want to spend a longer time with your significant other because you will feel the need to watch something happy and light afterwards.

Someone Marry Barry

This is a perfect movie to watch and learn about your significant other’s boundaries. The main character in the movie has no boundaries and does some cringe-worthy things: curses way too much in inappropriate situations, makes crude jokes about sex and openly discusses his negative opinion of someone right in front of them. If your significant other isn’t cringing when you are, that might be a red flag.

The Gruffalo

The Gruffalo is an adorable movie to watch when you’re feeling innocent. It is a short animated movie made across the Pond and is narrated by Helena Bonham Carter (yes, Bellatrix Lestrange).  Fun and joyful, The Gruffalo is a good movie to watch and enjoy with someone once you feel really comfortable with them and are willing to allow your child inside show a bit.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure

Ridiculous and solid is the only way to capture the essence of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. Plus, there are a lot  of random electric guitar riffs. If you have ever wanted to travel in time to learn about history, make time for this movie. Keanu Reeves plays a character stunningly different from Neo in this film.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

If your significant other hasn’t seen this movie yet, you either need to question everything about who they are or, a much better solution, watch it with them. A mystery?  A comedy? A cartoon? No one really knows how to label this film, but it’s a must-see. After watching this movie for the first time, you will finally understand Jessica Rabbit references. The mayor’s secretary in Powerpuff Girls is looking awfully rabbit-like.

The Hole

The Hole is a scary movie with a lot of scares and creepy music in the beginning, but as you begin to understand the monster, it is not as terrifying. This is a good scary movie that makes you think about what your biggest fears are and has a developing plot line. The writers really thought about what they were saying overall instead of just focusing on how to make their audience scared. Because of all of the frightening parts in the beginning, including a creepy little girl and a clown, you will get to be extra cuddly with your boy or girl, which definitely makes all of it worth it.

Bridget Jones’s Diary

Bridget Jones Diary is a truly cheeky film that, although it came out awhile ago, is still relevant today. All of the cringe-worthy things Bridget gets herself into in London, mixed with Colin Firth’s gawkiness and lack of insight to the female mind and Hugh Grant’s charm make this film a must. Yes it is a bit of a chick flick, but it is one any man can enjoy. An exploration of the ‘crazy’ antics of a woman trying to find love in a big city, this movie makes any girl laugh at herself while watching it.
