Movies To Watch This Halloween

1. Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is a Halloween classic. It follows Max, Allison, Dani and Binx as they try to foil the evil plot of the newly resurrected Sanderson Sisters. The Sanderson Sisters are a group of witches who were executed in the 17th century after being caught trying to absorb the life-force of the town of Salem’s children. After Max accidentally resurrects them, he and his friends must save his little sister Dani from experiencing the same fate as those children.

2. Halloweentown

The Halloweentown movies were a childhood favorite. I used to count down the days until Disney would show a Halloweentown movie marathon. The movie follows the misadventures of Marnie Piper, a young witch. Her grandmother, Aggie, resides in Halloweentown, and she wants to start training Marie so she can learn to harness her powers. When Aggie, Marnie and her siblings arrive in Halloweentown, they must save the city from a mysterious evil force.

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Again, a Halloween classic. This movie in particular is interesting because it can be included on both your Halloween and Christmas movie marathon list; it highlights the internal struggle of the main character Jack Skellington as he tries to find meaning in his life. Jack is the king of Halloween, but he seems burnt out from this role and hopes to find another way to bring meaning to his life. How does he choose to do this? Christmas.

4. Corpse Bride

Tim Burton creates the creepiest movies, and the Corpse Bride is no exception. The movie is about Victor Van Dort and his adventures in the land of the dead. He is brought there by mistake after accidentally proposing to the corpse of a bride who was murdered on her wedding night. It’s definitely spooky and a great movie to watch in bed.

5. Halloween (1978)

From what I hear, Halloween isn’t that scary, but I’m a scaredy-cat, so I don’t have enough courage to watch it. However, if you’re a fan of old scary movies then Halloween is the movie for you. The main character, Michael Myers, murdered his sister on Halloween night; after 15 years of being in a mental institution, he escapes and returns to his hometown to continue his murderous escapades.

6. Scream (1996)

Scream is another oldie that I hear isn’t that scary, but again, even Disney movies scare me sometimes. Sydney and her friends start receiving strange phone calls, who we later find out are from a serial killer. The killer wears the now iconic white mask and black robe that we have come to associate with the film. This is definitely a great movie to watch late on Halloween night if you need a good scare — or not, if these movies don’t frighten you.

7. Young Frankenstein

Young Frankenstein is also a classic. The movie is a favorite of mine, and I know many people who pull it off the shelf and watch it every year. After Dr. Victor von Frankenstein passes away, his grandson, a neurosurgeon that believes his grandfather’s work on reanimation is a bunch of bologna, inherits the family castle. He visits his new home, and to his surprise, he finds some interesting notes that his grandfather wrote.

8. Beetlejuice

I’ve only seen Beetlejuice once, but it only takes one time to know it’s a great movie to watch during spooky season. After the two residents of a small home in a small town pass away, they return to their home thinking they’re still alive. As the house is not technically vacated, the couple haunt the new family who moves in. The couple hope to scare the new family out of the house by calling the spirit Beetlejuice.

9. Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters is a classic ,and it would be cruel not to put it on this list. If you don’t know what the movie is about, then you need to just go ahead and watch. However, if you really haven’t seen it, the movie follows the Ghostbusters, who are a squad of four men that exterminate paranormal beings that infest people’s homes.

10. Literally any horror movie

It’s Halloween, any horror movie you watch is going to be perfect for a Halloween movie marathon. Grab a group of your friends and figure out which few you want to watch and then you can all be terrified together.
