It’s about time this delicious restaurant was added to Winston’s food options. In the mood for a Tex-Mex experience? Visit Tijuana Flats for delicious, quickly-prepared, fresh and inexpensive cuisine.
Located very close to campus off of South Stratford Road, you and your friends can add a taste like no other to your palate. This restaurant is open every day of the week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and offers customers vegetarian, lard-free beans, hormone-free chicken, pork and steak and trans-fat free cooking oil. They like to “keep it fresh” as microwaves or freezers are not used in food preparation.
Tijuana Flats is the place to be if you have an uncontrollable love for Mexican food and need a break from Moe’s and Chipotle. Go ahead and satisfy your hunger needs by experiencing this cuisine. With burritos, chimichangas, nachos, salads and quesadillas, the options are seemingly endless when your eyes meet the menu.
Oh, but don’t worry if you can’t make a decision between the options because you can “Pick Dos” of them for only $9.99. The price range is fair and large food portions do not exceed $10. Although the prices remain fairly low, the calories do not.
Caloric information on each dish is displayed on the menu beneath the food option description. Don’t be alarmed! It is worth every calorie. Tijuana can be a “cheat day” choice rather than a “every-other-day” option like Chipotle.
As I warned, the menu is overwhelmingly full of delicious options so if you don’t have time to read over it, go ahead and order ahead of time!
Tijuana offers its customers “made-to-order” items as well as the option to place an order before arriving to the location.
This chain restaurant is one of my favorites, but is not a very well-known one. Tijuana definitely added excitement to Winston-Salem’s wide array of fast-food restaurants.
My favorite dish is the chicken flautas, which are $6.69 and, depending on the added toppings, range from 350-1,000 calories. Flautas are lightly fried flour or wheat tortillas, with cheese, choice of filling (chicken, beef, carnitas or steak), and served with queso, guac, and veggie toppings.
I highly suggest trying this interesting dish as it is not prepared in many other restaurants. The quesadillas are also amazing here and are about $7.
You have the choice of adding chicken, beans, beef, steak or carnitas to this dish, as well.
Not full from your meal? Do yourself a favor and order the cookie-dough flautas. Many are served in one order, so sharing is possible. This is probably one of the best desserts I have ever tried. I promise you will not regret this indulgence.
I have never left Tijuana without a smile. I guarantee you will be satisfied from the time you walk into the restaurant until you leave, as staff members, food, and vibes are all positive and fun.
Winston just got a little more exciting. Go and spread the word about this newest addition! This is an experience no one should miss out on.
