Even though the spring and summer fashion seasons ended only recently, it is time to begin thinking about trends for the fall and winter.
The 2015 fall and winter fashion shows were some of the best. They featured clothes gracefully decorated with fur, new takes on the elegant slip dress but most importantly: the floor-duster coat.
The name describes this coat at its extreme — the coat is so long it “dusts” the floor as you walk. Taking practicality into account, however, designers have fashioned this coat so that it varies between floor and knee length.
Featured in the shows of some of the most impressive fashion houses such as Chanel, Christian Dior and Chloe, this look became an instant must-have. Longer than your average coat, not only will it keep you cozy during the approaching chilly weather, it also adds a dimension of elegance to any outfit. Overall, it can be the finishing layer to perfect any look.
“The length is appropriate yet flattering” sophomore Riley Walker said. “It will keep you warm as you walk around campus while looking chic.”
Due to its appeal, there are endless versions of this coat, whether you are looking for something lightweight, loose or furry. There are also different styles of the coat depending on whether you’re looking for something simple or fancy, classic or modern.
If you don’t want to splurge on an expensive coat, you have plenty of options, as well: companies such as H&M, Top Shop and Forever 21 all have affordable versions.
“I know it would take any outfit to the next level, and it seems so cozy and comfortable,” sophomore Lindsay Sheehan said.
So how do you style this coat? The beauty of its simple design is that it goes with virtually any outfit. Going to class? Toss on a pair of jeans, a comfy sweater and cute booties under this coat — instant chic street style.
Looking to impress?
Pair it with knee high boots and a simple dress — you’re bound to turn heads.
If you’re looking for a new coat to add to your closet this fall and winter, look no further, because the floor duster is a trend that is here to stay.
With the cold winters at Wake Forest, you’re going to want a coat that will keep you warm while looking great on the go.
