For the fifth time in program history, Wake Forest Men’s Tennis claimed a share of the ACC regular season title following a 4-0 victory over in-state rival NC State. The Demon Deacons have an impressive 25-1 conference record over the last two seasons.
To start Saturday afternoon’s match, Wake Forest honored their lone senior, DK Suresh Ekambaram, and his accomplishments in the Old Gold and Black. In last year’s championship match, Suresh clinched the title for the Deacs second NCAA National Championship.
Suresh and his doubles partner, Andrew Delgado, are now the No. 2-ranked pairing in the country. The duo got the match started with a quick 6-2 victory over their opponents.
The Deacs then picked up the doubles point for the 27th time this season and 18th consecutive match.
All six singles courts got off to exciting starts, as three of them went to tiebreakers. The Demon Deacons then took five of six first sets and set the tone for the rest of the match. The Deacons secured the 4-0 victory with wins on courts four, five and six.
“What an awesome night, it’s always a privilege to win an ACC regular season championship,” Head Coach Tony Bresky said. “I think it’s the toughest conference in the country, and it’s actually the toughest championship to win.”
The Demon Deacons finish the regular season 12-1 in ACC play, 27-3 overall, and 18-0 at home. En route to their second consecutive title, they outscored their opponents in conference play 54-11 in matches won.
Wake Forest also swept the Big Four this season with previous wins over North Carolina (4-0) and Duke (4-0) on the road.
Even more impressively, Wake Forest beat No. 1-ranked Texas, No. 3-ranked Virginia, and No. 4-ranked TCU in their campaign, yet somehow find themselves currently ranked No. 7 in the Division 1 standings.
Both Suresh and Luca Pow ended the regular season in the top ten of career doubles wins in Wake Forest history, at No. 4 and No. 8, respectively.
Throughout the season, Delgado did not record a single loss across both doubles and singles, marking an incredible feat for the redshirt freshman.
Wake Forest now heads into the postseason as the No. 1 overall seed in the 2026 ACC men’s tennis tournament. Wake Forest will have a bye until the quarterfinals, which will take place Friday, April 17, at Cary Tennis Park.
Coach Bresky will look to add to his trophy case for the 13th time this weekend at the conference championship.
“We’re just proud to represent Wake Forest and bring home an ACC title. We’re looking forward to the ACC tournament next weekend.”
