Everyone is looking for new ways to get and stay connected these days, whether it be via Twitter, Instagram or even Snapchat. Our community at Wake Forest is no exception, as shown by the multitude of different Wake Forest accounts out there. To help ease the burden of sifting through this plethora of pages and platforms, we at the Old Gold & Black have compiled a list of the most crucial social media accounts for any up-and-coming Wake Forest freshman to follow.
Official Wake Forest Accounts
A follow-happy frosh should look no further than Wake Forest’s own official social media accounts. Wake Forest’s official Twitter account, @WakeForest, acts as an ample source of university news. Tweeting Deacs in need of news that simply pertains to university athletics can find it at @DemonDeacons. Further platforms exist for specific sports, such as @wakefootball on Instagram. Barstool Sports even has its own Wake Forest-themed affiliate, @BarstoolWFU. Students can even get their news directly from University President Nathan O. Hatch himself, via his Twitter account @PresidentHatch.
Another helpful Twitter account to follow is @WakeAlert, an emergency resource account dedicated to updating students in the event of possible emergency situations on campus. These accounts are excellent resources for students to get news pertaining to the surrounding Wake Forest community, straight from the deacon’s mouth.
Student Organizations
Wake Forest’s numerous student organizations are heavily represented on social media as well. For anyone interested in the political side of Wake Forest, the Student Government Twitter, @wakesg, is a good place to start. Students looking for information on the various events that happen in and around the Forest should check out @wfuSU, Student Union’s Twitter account. The more musically inclined may be interested in Wake Radio’s Instagram, @wake_radio, while outdoorsy students may be more interested in Campus Rec’s page @wfucampusrec. Students that have a strong interest in news from a student perspective should check out the illustrious Old Gold & Black’s Instagram and Twitter, @wfu_ogb. These are only just a few of the student organizations that you can like, follow, or otherwise put on your radar — many others exist, including service and Greek organizations.
Fun and Funny Accounts
There also is a good number of humorous and entertaining social media accounts that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a bit of levity. Students looking for satirical Wake Forest-themed humor will definitely enjoy the Instagram page @fake_worest. Another humorous account is @wfubananas, a page that celebrates a unique, potassium-fueled vision of Wake Forest’s student body. Pup lovers can look no further than the Instagram account @dogsofwfu, a compilation of candid shots of the institution’s various canine residents and visitors.
It is an undeniable truth that any Wake Forest student looking to connect with their online community should have no problem finding an outlet. We hope that this list can serve as a guide to those overwhelmed by the mass of accounts to keep in mind. Happy following!
