Three ways to liven up your wardrobe

Three ways to liven up your wardrobe

As the seasons change, many people are looking for a few pieces of clothing to add to their closets.

Jackets with Patches

Denim and Bomber Jackets accessorized with patches should be your new go to top layer. Junior Alejandra Castiblanco, who just returned from a semester in Paris, likes the colorful patches on her denim jacket.

She wears her jacket on a daily basis. “They’re an unconventional way to add color to an article of clothing with a variety of options,” she said. “It’s so comfortable and it’s easy to layer over big sweaters in the cold.”

My personal favorite is an oversized bomber jacket from Alpha Industries with Velcro areas that allow you to personalize the patches you want on it.

Both denim and Bomber Jackets are incredibly versatile but I would recommend styling them with relaxed looks as they bring a lot of personality to the outfit. The majority of the options are vintage, or look that way — so they will not be going out of style anytime soon.

Frayed Jeans

Jeans with rips have been overdone these past few seasons. To be honest, it’s not too rare to spot someone wearing jeans with rips these days. These next few months, try jeans with frayed and unevenly cut ends for a more unique look. They come in a variety or dyes, lengths and level of distress so you are sure to find something that suits your personal style.

For an effortlessly chic, yet casual look, pair the jeans with a plain t-shirt and some sneakers. For a more refined look, pair the jeans with some heeled booties, a leather jacket and then you’re ready for a fun night out.

Sneakers

Sneakers have become a staple for every outfit these past few years. However, with so many people wearing them, it’s hard to stand out. Ditch the classics — Adidas, Converse and Vans — and look to sneakers with unique materials, shapes and color combinations for your next purchase. You will not only look different, but also feel more individualistic.

As junior Emma Cooley said, “I like having my own unique sneakers because it lets me express myself. It is the difference between fashion and style. Fashion tells everybody to wear white sneakers, but style is finding a pair that you like not just because they’re white, but because they match your vibes and show your individuality.”

You can pair the right pair of sneakers with anything from a casual t-shirt with jeans to a stylish dress or skirt. Since sneakers are a trend that is here to stay, consider investing in a few fun pieces that will last you a while.
