After an initial email sent on Sunday Dec. 2 by Wake Alert, the student body has received three additional emails concerning an unsubstantained threat made against the university.
The original alert stated that “law enforcement officials immediately began an investigation.” According to the Crime & Fire log, the University recieved word of the threat at 7:51 a.m. on Dec. 2.
In the original email sent out, Wake Alert made it clear that there would be an increased presence of security on campus. In busy areas, such as ZSR Library and Benson University Center, students said they noticed additional officers present in the areas.
Additionally, the initial email stated that “there is no greater priortiy than the safety of our camps community, At this time, there is no evidence that this is a credible threat.”
Students received more emails, two on Monday, Dec. 3 and one on Tuesday Dec. 4, all reiterating the sentiments of the original email. However, the Dec. 4 email also aimed to dispel rumors of specific indivduals threatening the campus.
On Dec. 2, many in the Wake Forest community atended the annual Lovefeast sermon, in which attendees were subject to secuirty measures not taken in years prior. Those who attended Lovefeast not only had their bags checked, but also had to open coats and other bulkly clothing items to security officers for additional screening. At the time, the Wake Forest community had not been alerted about the “unsubstaniated threats.”
However, the initial message from Sunday and the subsequent emails left students with many unanswered questions.
University Police did not provide additional information when requested.
