Tiger Makes History, Again

Tiger Woods made history yet again this past week when he won his 82nd PGA Tour title at the Zozo Championship in Chiba, Japan. With the win, Tiger tied the all-time record for most PGA Tour Titles. The record for most PGA title wins was set in 1965 by Sam Snead, who is widely considered one of the greatest golfers of all time.

Tiger’s win in Chiba comes about six months after his win at the Masters Tournament in mid-April, which brought Tiger back into the limelight and onto the cover of Sports Illustrated. Twenty-three years after his first victory at the Las Vegas Invitational, Woods is again on top of the golf world.

Davis Continues to Impress in Los Angeles

Anthony Davis put up another stellar performance Tuesday night, finishing with 40 points and 20 rebounds as the Lakers trounced the Grizzlies, 120-91. Through his first four games of the season, AD is now averaging almost 30 points and 13 rebounds per game.

Davis joined LeBron and the Lakers this past summer in a trade that sent Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and multiple first round picks to the New Orleans Pelicans. The former first overall pick was part of three All-NBA First-Team selections in New Orleans and selected to play in the all-star game six times in seven seasons. While there is no doubt that AD will continue to thrive in Los Angeles, Lakers fans hope that his efforts will be enough to secure the team a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2013, three years before Kobe retired.

Undefeated Teams Continue Winning in Week 8

Both the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers won their games on Sunday to keep their perfect records for the 2019-2020 season. The Patriots’ defense put up another stellar performance, allowing only 13 points against the Browns. The 49ers’ defense played equally well, only allowing 13 points to the Panthers, while scoring 51 points, against a strong Panthers defense.

The Patriots success may come as much less of a surprise than that of the 49ers. Coming off yet another Super Bowl win in the 2018-19 season, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were favorites to win it all again in 2020. The 49ers’ odds of winning the Super Bowl at the beginning of the season were 36-1 (The Patriots’ odds were the league’s highest at 7-1), and these odds, although still low, may be generous considering that the 49ers finished last season with a dismal 4-12 record, including zero wins and eight losses on the road. For Week 9, the 49ers will likely cruise past the struggling Cardinals on Thursday night while the Patriots will play against a dangerous Ravens team on Sunday night.

Buffalo Hockey

The Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League improved to a league-best 9-2 record with a recent win over the Detroit Red Wings. The Sabres’ early success has come as a surprise to many around the league, as the team has put up almost a quarter of the points they did last season through less than 14% of their games this season. Headed by center Jack Eichel — who leads the team with seven goals and 10 assists — the Sabres currently sit two points above the Boston Bruins, who are looking to return to the Stanley Cup Finals, as current winners of the Atlantic Division.

The Sabres were also very successful at the beginning of the 2018-19 season, winning 17 games while only losing 10 through the first two months of the season. However, their success didn’t last. By the end of the season, the team finished with a disappointing 33-39 record, placing them 7th in the Eastern Conference and 22 points away from a wild-card spot. The hockey world will keep an eye on Buffalo to see if they can continue their winning ways, or if they will slowly fall down the standings once again.
