Staff Editorial: We all could use a laugh (or two)

Editorial Staff

Welcome, and happy April Fools’ Day from the Editorial Staff of the Old Gold & Black.

If your multiple midterm weeks were anything like ours, we’re sure you’d agree that “Work Forest” is certainly living up to its name. But all work and no play doesn’t work for anyone. That’s why this week, we decided to play.

Inside this issue, things look a bit different than usual. We’re hesitant to call anything we do here at the OGB “fake news,” but (almost) every story you’ll read in this week’s issue is satirical (save one piece you can find on page 15). The last time April Fool’s Day fell on a Thursday was exactly one decade ago. Eons, right?

Simply put, the opportunity was too good to pass up. So, we took a break from our typical hard-hitting news coverage to embody The Onion as best we could.

If you are interested in reading the actual news — which we contend is quite boring and not worth reading — you can do that too at www.wfuogb.com.

Also, a special thank you to some of the funniest folks on campus involved in Fake Worest and The Lilting Banshees. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be featuring content from their talented teams in this special April Fools’ issue, and we invite you to check both of them out on Instagram @FakeWorest and @LiltingBanshees, respectively (if, for some ungodly reason, you aren’t already).

As with every issue of the OGB (dubbed the OGBYN this week), the end result wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication of our staff and all those who contributed.

On behalf of this satirical news publication, we hope the absurdity contained within this issue is good for a couple of chuckles. As you’ll soon see, we poke fun at everyone, and anything we publish this week is meant entirely in jest.

So, until the next factual news cycle comes around, this is the editorial staff of the OGBYN, officially signing off. Spread some joy and laughter today — lord knows we need it.
