According to President Hatch, head coach Dave Clawson has a better idea of the types of players worth pursuing in recruiting after two full years as head coach.

Wake Forest is a unique school and landing spot for the high school senior — athletic enough to play Division I football and studious enough to keep pace with the academics of a top-30 university.

The unique opportunity to play football for a Power Five school and receive an education from one of the country’s top academic institutions has given Clawson the recruiting pitch necessary to landing back-to-back classes that rank as two of the best in program history.

Moreover, both classes rank higher than any of the classes that contributed to the 2006 Orange Bowl.

The 2016 class headlines 12 offensive players, including three wide receivers, three offensive linemen, one quarterback, two running backs and three tight ends.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Demon Deacons welcome four defensive backs, four defensive linemen and one linebacker. Additionally, Wake Forest welcomes the top-ranked punter in the class of 2016.

Landing two of the highest rated recruiting classes in program history — in back-to-back years — is a step in the right direction for Clawson and the Demon Deacons.
