The No.1-ranked Wake Forest men’s tennis team got back to work on Sunday and added yet another victory in their 2026 campaign. The Demon Deacons were viewed as heavy favorites against the Volunteers coming into this matchup, and they took care of business en route to a 4-1 victory.
After back-to-back shutout victories against Saint Joseph’s and ETSU, Wake Forest extended their win streak thanks to terrific performances from some new faces and one major reinforcement.
After missing the first two games of 2026, star D.K. Suresh made a strong season debut. The talented junior notched a doubles point with partner Charlie Robinson as they defeated the opposing Volunteer duo 6-4. Suresh, however, did drop his singles matchup against No. 121-ranked Alejandro Moreno of Tennessee.
Freshman Aryan Shah competed in his debut collegiate matchup and won his first doubles contest alongside junior Luca Pow. Despite not finishing his singles match against Dragos Cazacu of Tennessee, the first-year made his presence felt at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
“I think we have a very talented team, but a very new and young team,” Coach Tony Bresky said. “We had a few new guys in the lineup that hadn’t really played from last year. Even for the older guys, it’s always different getting back to dual match form.”
Sophomore Joaquin Guilleme added yet another resounding singles victory, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Guilleme has started his collegiate career without dropping a singles match, winning each of his first 12 competitions. Mees Rottgering was the last Demon Deacon to make his first start of the season, this one also being a collegiate debut, in which the freshman standout defeated Ethan Muza 6-3, 6-0.
After winning the national championship last season, the Wake Forest men’s tennis team looks to be just as talented and as determined in 2026. With a plethora of young talent and the dynamic duo of Luca Pow and D.K. Suresh blossoming, the Demon Deacons seem set to win it all again.
Next week will be a clash of collegiate tennis titans as Wake Forest heads off to Austin to face No. 2 Texas. While the season is young, a victory against a dominant Longhorns squad would suggest a successful 2026 is on the horizon for the Demon Deacons.
