With temperatures dropping and the stress of school increasing, I find myself needing to take a break from the library and pit food.
A friend recently mentioned a new restaurant in Winston-Salem called Fresh Melt. Never having heard of it before, I decided to try it out one cold Sunday as a break from my normal routine.
Learning that Fresh Melt was a restaurant that specialized in gourmet grilled cheeses and soups, I had high expectations. I didn’t know if it could compare to my brother’s delicious grilled cheese or my dad’s homemade soup I’m used to. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious taste of the eclectic gooey grilled cheese and the warm tomato soup.
I ordered the Grilled Portabella sandwich which included high crown white bread, swiss cheese, feta cheese, grilled portabella mushroom, spinach, sliced tomato and roasted red pepper. This unique combination tasted perfect and was extremely filling. My friend ordered the Big Cheese, which had Reuben sourdough bread, mozzarella cheese, provolone cheese and cheddar cheese. Both of these sandwiches were recommended by the staff as the most delicious and popular options. Other items on the menu included unique pairings with mac ‘n cheese in the sandwich and guacamole. All of the sandwiches are created using high-quality ingredients.
In addition to the recommended gourmet sandwiches, the menu also offered a build-your-own option. There were multiple homemade soup options, salads and side options to accompany the sandwich or to create a mix ‘n match order. Everything on the menu was very reasonably priced and all looked just as delicious as the two sandwiches we chose.
The icing on the cake was the staff and ambiance of Fresh Melt. The employees were extremely friendly, helpful and patient as they explained the menu to us. The manager made a thoughtful effort to come and talk to us, welcoming us to Fresh Melt. The service was very efficient and we had our food within 10 minutes of ordering at the front of the restaurant. The decor was fun and modern with the backdrop of the menu resembling melted cheese. Overall it was welcoming and casual atmosphere with friendly staff, relaxing ambiance, and delicious food.
I left Fresh Melt simply satisfied, as its slogan suggests, and wanting to go back for more. I highly recommend this new restaurant for anyone who wants delicious food that is fast and served in a friendly environment.
Fresh Melt is located off of Hanes Mall Boulevard and is the first of its kind; however, a new location will be opening soon in High Point.
So if you’re looking for a remedy to the cold weather and stress of school, Fresh Melt offers the perfect cure as a warm and delicious break.
