After a close race resulted in a runoff for Student Government President, junior Mellie Mesfin was elected to the position on March 29. She collected 56 percent of the vote, or a total of 1,093 votes, defeating junior Walter Jackson, who collected 44 percent of the vote, or a total of 834 votes.
Mesfin was the only one out of five candidates without previous experience in Student Government. However, she is a Campus Kitchen intern and is an active member with the Social Justice Incubator.
“I’m excited to build new relationships and find ways to get a more diverse range of students involved with Student Government. I want people to know what we’re doing and what we can do for them,” Mesfin said.
